Quick reminder about the Whistleblowing Advice Line

The NPSCC’s Whistleblowing Advice Line was launched  back in February 2016. This has been developed to provide support to employees wishing to raise concerns over how child protection issues are being handled in their own or other organisations.

The NSPCC Whistleblowing Advice Line can be reached on 0800 028 0285

The Home Office and Department for Education commissioned the NSPCC to manage the advice line after a firm commitment to do so was made by the Government in its Tackling CSE report in March 2015.

The advice line is not intended to replace any current practices or responsibilities of organisations working with children. The helpline advisors would encourage professionals to raise any concerns about a child to their own employer in the first instance. However, the advice line offers an alternative route if whistleblowing internally is difficult or professionals have concerns around how matters are being handled.

We are currently gaining advice and lived experience from those who have used Children and Young Persons Services within Devon. Please could you help us by forwarding the below email to parents of children who attend your group or perhaps we could arrange a meeting ? We have a group on hand who will be DJing to highlight the needs of our community – it’ll be very interactive.

Shaping future Community Health and Wellbeing Services for children and young people in Devon

Have your say - 13 July–15 September 2017

https://www.newdevonccg.nhs.uk/your-ccg/children-and-young-people-100144

The contracts to provide services for children and young people in Devon are due to be renewed from 1 April 2019.   This provides an opportunity over the coming months to review and improve the system of care and support available to children and young people across Devon. Services range from those that all children and young people come into contact with at some point including health visiting and school nursing, services to support those with mental health issues and services for children and young people with additional or special needs (up to the age of 25).

Between 13 July and 15 September, we are seeking the views of children and young people, parents, carers, professionals that work with children and those that refer into services to further inform our proposals.

Local children in Exeter get stuck into green social action work as part of the launch of new local water saving pilot

Greenredeem and South West Water hosted a water saving workshop with pupils at Stoke Hill Junior School in Exeter on the 4th July, to celebrate the launch of the water saving pilot in the Stoke Hill area of Exeter. At least 40 pupils, all members of the school’s ‘Green Team’, attended the event. The workshop came as the Greenredeem water saving pilot goes live in the Stoke Hill area with local residents, schools, community groups and businesses all now able to benefit from saving water.

Greenredeem rewards people for everyday green actions. Through working in partnership with Stoke Hill Junior School, Greenredeem has made the school a donations partner of the scheme, and through local residents saving water, they can then donate their points to help the school fund outdoor play equipment for the pupils.

The water saving workshop was delivered by the South West Water education team, followed by a group photo call in the playground of the school. The pupils  were given goodie bags at the workshop which they could take home with them to educate their families about saving water and help them to get new playground equipment.

A group of 3,200 South West Water customers in the Stoke Hill area will be invited to join Greenredeem and be rewarded for using less water at home. Householders will be given points for reducing the amount of water they use at home as part of a community effort, which can be redeemed against personal rewards. These can then given as a donation to Stoke Hill Junior School or used in Greenredeem’s monthly prize draw. To find out more, visit www.greenredeem.co.uk/swwater

Rob Crumbie, Director of Marketing and Communications at Greenredeem comments: “We’re delighted to be given the opportunity to teach the children at Stoke Hill Junior School about water saving alongside South West Water. We hope the children will go home and tell their families all about what they have learned, and encourage them to build up as many points as possible so the school can be rewarded with playground equipment. We want to inspire everyone in the area to save water for the benefit of the environment and the entire community.”

Bob Taylor, Operations Director (Drinking Water Services), South West Water adds: “The workshop hosted at Stoke Hill School provides us with a unique opportunity to educate the children on saving water. We want to encourage a long term change in attitude towards how we use water, and the best way to do that is through working with young people. We’re delighted to be working with Greenredeem and the School to help raise funds for some new playground equipment as a result of the efforts of the local community to save water through everyday actions at home”

Chris Poustie, Yr5 teacher and Green team leader at Stoke Hill Junior School said, “Through this unique partnership with South West Water & Greenredeem we’re in a real win-win situation. Our children will learn more about how to be water efficient and we hope that the points donated through the scheme will be enough to help us refurbish some of our outdoor play equipment
