Introducing a strengths-based approach to child protection in a new child protection pathway
12.30 pm - 4.00 pm Rattery Village Hall, Rattery, South Brent
Event Description:
This is a three hour, multi-agency workshop which will help delegates to understand how a strengths based model provides families with a meaningful chance to change.
During the workshop delegates will see how a strengths-based approach concentrates on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, communities, groups and organisations, deploying strengths to aid recovery, change, empowerment and resilience. This approach can be used in both the early help and child protection arenas. Delegates will also learn about the changes to child protection meetings and the role they will be required to play in these.
The training will be delivered by members of the working group who have developed the approach and the new methods of working and they are drawn from multi agency partners across Devon.
Frequency: there is no requirement to repeat this workshop
Target Group:
This workshop is suitable for staff who work with children, young people, families and parents or carers where they are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect and who may then be asked to contribute to assessing, planning or intervening and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.
Training Objectives:
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Acknowledge the need for change to a new model for working with children and families
- Commit to changing to using a strengths based approach in their work
- Recognise the key differences from the previous approach
- Be confident to use the new methodology and processes
- Undertake their own roles and responsibilities in the process
