Bank Youth Project - Assistant Youth Support Workers

The Trustees of the Bank Youth Project (BYP) are looking to recruit adults, both male and female to join the youth work team at BYP as Assistant Youth Support Workers. Assistant Youth Support Workers work as part of the staff team assisting in providing and facilitating activities, mentoring young people, leading or assisting with the leadership of projects and promoting the values and objectives of BYP.

BYP’s mission is to empower and support children and young people to improve their life opportunities by helping them grow both as individuals and as members of the community.

Our aim is to engage young people in purposeful activity in a safe space they can call their own, where they can relax, be creative, have fun, make friends, develop their interests and skills, talk and discuss, increase self-awareness, take on responsibility, seek advice and support, and increase their understanding of the community around them and their involvement in it.

This is supported by the following objectives:

• To develop and consistently support young peoples' social, emotional and mental wellbeing through activities, advice and mentoring.
• To reduce incidences of antisocial behaviour (e.g. bullying, aggression and crime) and of low self-esteem through developing a sense of community responsibility and personal empowerment
• To improve relationships with peers, parents and other stakeholders in the wider community.
• To have positive on-going engagement with young people which will adapt and evolve to meet their needs and ensure BYP’s long-term sustainability.

We are looking for people who already have some experience of youth work, but we are also looking for people who don’t necessarily have any experience but feel that it is something they would like to do. To those people selected we can offer a trial period to see if it works for you and us and if it does, we can set something up on a firmer footing on an employed basis. The current rate of pay for Assistant Youth Support Workers is £10.42 per hour. We are open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evenings from 6.00 until 9.00 and on Saturday afternoons from 1.00 until 4.00. We are particularly interested in people who are able to work on Thursday and/or Friday evenings and on Saturday afternoons. The Assistant Youth Support Workers will be supported by the Lead Support Youth Worker and other members of the youth work team. Training and continuing professional development will be available.
