This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, Devon based charity in its mission to prevent child abuse. We are recruiting a Team Leader to lead the delivery of the CAP UK programme in the Exeter area and manage our team of facilitators working in Primary schools.

CAP UK (Child Assault Prevention) is a charity that aims to keep children Safe Strong and Free and prevent child abuse. Based on an international programme, CAP has been running in the Southwest for 26 years. Our approach is to work with the whole school community by running workshops for parents, school staff and with children in whole class groups.

The children’s workshops:-

These focus on empowering primary school children to understand their rights to safety strength and freedom. CAP teaches children to recognise unsafe situations and gives them strategies to manage these and get help. By using role-play, puppets and discussion the workshops convey these serious messages in a fun, age-appropriate way.

CAPs adult workshops:-

These help the community understand how to talk to children about keeping safe. We also run child protection training to build confidence in recognising a child that is being abused and how to access support.

The Team Leader’s role:-

We are seeking someone, with this exciting chance, to lead our team in Exeter and surrounding area. This is a diverse role that will involve promoting CAP UK, liaising with schools to book workshops, delivery of children and adult sessions as well as managing a small team of 2 facilitators.

The Exeter team Leader will also network with relevant agencies to raise awareness of CAP across Exeter area, as well as manage any safeguarding concerns that arise during our school visits.

All the work takes place in term time but does often involve early starts and occasional evening work. CAP children’s workshops usually run-on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays but we also hold team meetings on Thursday mornings once a month and adult workshop are often held on this day. The Team Leader will work in schools, attend training/meetings at the Totnes office and will be expected to do some work from home.

Awareness and understanding of child abuse is essential, as is the ability to work confidentiality with both adults and children. Knowledge of Exeter primary schools is advantageous and previous experience of workshop delivery is important. It is vital that candidates respect children and believe in their empowerment.

There is a large amount of travel in this role as the team visit different schools each week and a mileage allowance is paid. Own transport is essential for this role.
