Group 4 Refresher – Assessing, Analysing and Managing Risk in Interagency Child Protection

Being held on the 13th July 2017 at Filleigh Village Hall, Barnstaple

  • This one day, face to face, multi-agency course, delivered by an experienced trainer which looks at how to carry out a risk assessment using a range of tools, how to develop and test hypotheses, develops skills in analysing information and how to identify outcomes and draw up a SMART plan of action.  It will stress the importance of analytic and intuitive reasoning and how to use these alongside assessment tools in supervision.  The course will further explore the issues of difference and diversity, the use of professional judgements to make decisions whether a child is suffering (or is likely to suffer) significant harm, including complex cases where emergency action is needed.  Course materials draw on research and Serious Case Reviews, both local and national.

Training Objectives:

  • Describe the impact of the parent/carers physical and mental health on their children
  • Describe the factors which impact on the development of young people
  • State the factors which increase a child/young person's vulnerability to harm
  • Co-ordinate or lead inter-agency assessments, the gathering and sharing of information and the analysis of risk using appropriate tools
  • Work with other professionals and agencies, children/young people and their parents/carers where there are safeguarding concerns and where child protection plans are in place
  • Use their professional judgement to made decisions whether a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, including complex cases where emergency action is needed
  • Identify poor practice
  • Accurately record information
  • State how and to whom to report concerns
  • Share information as appropriate
  • Communicate effectively with children/young people and their parents/carers
