An introduction to safeguarding for anyone in local government who has occasional contact with children, young people and vulnerable adults in their community. Designed to be simple, accessible and improve your confidence in keeping yourself and others safe.

Target group:  Anyone in local government (Cllrs, Staff or Volunteers) who has occasional contact with children, young people and vulnerable adults in their community.

At the end of this session you will have:-

  • a greater awareness of the legal framework for safeguarding and child protection and better understand what needs to be done to protect all those supported by the work of your council.

  • Feel more confident, enabling you to scrutinise or question any safeguarding related decisions made in your community.

  • Know what resources there are available that can support you to take reasonable steps to safeguard people.

  • Identify areas of potential risk and how these might be mitigated by your council or its subsidiaries.
