Course Description

One of our series of four “Pick n mix ”workshops delivered by our Social Enterprise advise service:

Do you have an ambitious social purpose project in mind but not sure how to get it funded.  Are you disheartened by grant applications that are rejected? Explore the full range of funding sources available to our sector and how to get better at getting them!

This is an interactive workshop with plenty of opportunity to explore your own particular project, network with like-minded people and learn from one-another’s experiences.

Aims

For VCSE organisations who are looking for a large injection of money to take their organisation to the next level – whether at start-up or growth of an established organisation this course will set you on the right track for success.

Intended learning outcomes:

By the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Be better able to identify sources of funding and to develop a capital investment plan to secure the total financial investment they are seeking
  • To understand the work they need to have in place in order to have the best chance of attracting funders
  • Have acquired a clearer understanding and confidence to produce a business plan in support of their funding bids.
  • Better understand how to compose great grant applications that bring the money in! 
  • Be better able to develop a sustainable funding strategy for their organisation.
  • To understand the critical factors that can underpin and organisations sustainability: Planning, Full Cost recovery, optimising your Assets, income diversification and the role of loan finance.

Have acquired a clearer understanding of the range of income streams available to our sector and how to use that opportunity to grow their organisations.

About your facilitators

Dawn Eckhart has worked for DCT for over 12 years is our lead in providing our social enterprise advice service and training programmes. As a team we work with a variety of VCS organisations including social and community enterprises from across Devon. We provide capacity building and business development advice at any stage of their organisational journey – whether they are at pre-start, established and looking to grow or become more sustainable in the long term.

We work with community organisations, charities, town councils and a many small and medium size social businesses. Typical areas of advice are on fundraising strategies, business planning and choosing the right organisational model and legal structure.
Dawn is a qualified SFEDI accredited business adviser and Trainer.
