Description :

We are currently working with a small Exeter based charity, Balloons, who work hard to support children and young people (C&YP) affected by bereavement in the Exeter, Mid and East Devon areas.  The charity is now ready to appoint their second Chief Executive Officer on the retirement of the incumbent CEO Sara Bennett, to enable them to grow and develop their services further to continue to reach those C&YP who need them.

We are looking for someone who can lead the charity into the future, using their expertise and knowledge to drive, innovate and enhance the business of Balloons. Applicants will have previous strategic management experience and be effective operationally. They will have some knowledge and experience of the delivery of psychological wellbeing services. Interested applicants should bear in mind the small size of the charity.

More specifically we are seeking:

  • Degree level education and a relevant qualification in clinical or therapeutic practice, as well as a business, management, or leadership qualification
  • Previous relevant experience in a clinical or therapeutic setting.
  • Able to demonstrate successful leadership of a non-profit organisation.
  • Innovation, vision, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Exceptional people management skills.
  • A track record in developing and delivering fundraising strategies.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Previous experience of working with a voluntary board of trustees.
  • Previous experience of leading an organisation which uses volunteers.
  • Knowledge and experience of psychological wellbeing and safeguarding processes when working with C&YP.
  • A genuine interest in this area of work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the Board of Trustees to ensure that a long-term strategy is in place for financial and operational security, and that the charity is fully compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Develop income generation strategies to maintain and enhance the level of funding available to the charity.
  • Have responsibility for day-to-day financial management of the charity.
  • Act as clinical director and ensure effective processes are in place so that the charity remains responsive to the needs of grieving C&YP.
  • Lead, manage and support the staff team to maximise their personal contributions.
  • Maintain effective networks with all principal supporters and stakeholders.
  • Seek opportunities to expand and promote the role of the charity.
  • Oversee the use of digital technology.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a well-respected charity delivering meaningful and valued services to C&YP, and to lead a small staff team to ensure they continue to grow and flourish both as part of the organisation and individually.
