  • Contract: Permanent (subject to funding)

Main purpose of the role:

This role has been developed to work alongside colleagues to embed a culture of volunteering and social action within the charity. You will be responsible for:

  • Working alongside our families (disabled young people, their siblings, and their parent carers) to identify improvements in services aimed at disabled children and young people.
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers (with lived experience of a disability or an impairment) in developing and delivering a range of social action and volunteering projects that contribute specifically to the vision and mission of the charity.
  • Utilising a range of approaches that amplifies the voices of families so that their input is central to processes, services and systems that affect their lives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Consult with families with disabled children about issues important to them and their lives.
  • Work with others within Friends and Families in encouraging individuals with lived experience of disability to get more involved with the charity through volunteering and/or social action projects.
  • Recruit, train and coordinate a team of volunteers who will help deliver key projects.
  • Ensure that all volunteering is carried out in accordance with our relevant policies (such as volunteering and safeguarding).
  • Identify in partnership with staff and volunteers a number of social action projects that could make a positive contribution.
  • Coordinate an annual event celebrating the contribution and impact of the volunteers and social action projects.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies with shared interests and values to maximise impact and outcomes.
  • Support our two neurodivergent peer support workers to develop through their youth work apprenticeship.
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes and impact both for the individuals volunteering and the areas of focus though volunteering or social action.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to promote the work of the charity through volunteering and social action.
  • Ensure up-to-date records are held on the charity’s database and in network folders in-line with GDPR and the charity’s data protection policy.
  • Proactively contribute to the achievement of the charity through individual and team effort.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Commit to ongoing professional development to meet the evolving demands of the role.
  • Represent Friends and Families externally as and when required, always acting in a professional manner in accordance with the organisational values.
  • To attend and participate in supervision and appraisal in accordance with Friends and Families performance management systems.
  • Prepare reports on your activities as required by your line manager.
  • Work in line with all the charity’s policies and procedures including data protection, safeguarding, health and safety, volunteer, finance, equality, and diversity.
