  • Are you passionate about making a positive difference to bereaved children, young people and their families’ lives?
  • Do you have experience of supporting children, young people and their families at home, or through support group sessions?

If so, we want to hear from you.

Families in Grief is a small childhood bereavement charity based in Bideford, North Devon. We support bereaved children, young people and their families living in the North Devon and the Torridge areas who have experienced the death of someone close to them.

We are looking for two passionate Family Service Coordinators to work 20 hours a week each, as a job share.

  • We need our Family Service Coordinators to be warm, friendly and approachable with excellent listening skills and the ability to be empathic.
  • As a Family Service Coordinator, your previous experience of supporting children and young people will help you to respond appropriately to all referrals and requests for bereavement support from families and professionals.
  • You will assess families and provide appropriate interventions through phone calls, home and school visits or by inviting them to our group support programmes. One for primary school aged children and their parents/ carers, and the other called ‘Teens in Grief’ for young people and their parents/carers.
  • You will coordinate all FiG bereavement support group sessions including all preparation of resources, booking venue, coordinating volunteers and families and so on. We run four support group programmes each year. Each FSC will be expected to play an active role in at least two of our group programmes each year, which take place over six or seven weekly evening sessions.
  • Your role will also include collecting evaluation and writing evaluation reports about the families you have helped as well as occasionally talking to schools or community groups about the work we do.

If you are organised, a self-starter and possess a ‘can-do’ attitude then we’d love to hear from you. Your role will be challenging and varied, and it is ideal for a ‘people person’ who can be flexible, adaptable and who can think on their feet. You will be determined to make a positive difference to the lives of bereaved families.
