Supported Lodgings Host Panels

Online and Face to Face in the Devon area

Panels will take place approximately 4 times per year

Whether it is through our accommodation, homelessness, skills or mental health work, Young Devon is an organisation which helps many hundreds of young people every year.  We exist to change the odds in favour of young people at exactly those times in their lives when it can feel like everything is stacked against them.

A safe place to call home is possibly the most critical thing which young people might need.

We are here to help young people to develop resilience and move towards independence; this is much harder to do without the sense of security that a place to call home offers. If we can stop a young person from becoming homeless, we will do everything that we can to do that. But, when that hasn’t worked, we are committed to improving the range, quality and amount of accommodation that we can offer to young people.

Supported Lodgings is one of those accommodation options.  Getting the right Host family for a young person is essential. Young Devon take the time needed to get to know the young people it works with, their likes and dislikes so that they can understand who they are. It’s only by taking this time that we can match each young person’s needs with an approved Host’s skills, preferred location and availability.

We are always looking for new Supported Lodgings Hosts who undertake an extensive assessment process and are then reviewed at a panel.  It is for these panels that we are now seeking an Independent Chair that’s where you come in!

You will be able to demonstrate good judgement combined with excellent communication skills and experience of chairing meetings.    Experience of Social Services,  homeless prevention or fostering are valuable skills you will bring to the role as Independent Chair to ensure the appropriate recruitment of our Supported Lodgings Hosts.

This is a voluntary position but one which we hope will be very rewarding.  We would hope to appoint to an initial 3 year term with the possibility to extend to thereafter.  Reasonable and proper expenses will be reimbursed.  An enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
