Introduction

VOYC Devon is a charity that provides specialist infrastructure support for the not for profit children and young people’s sector within Devon. We are now looking for trustees to join the organisation, with a vision to contribute to and develop the charity. The Voluntary and Community and Not for profit Sector have an increasingly important role in the provision of universal / preventative services. It is therefore important that they are supported through a local infrastructure body to enable the sector to meet the needs of the communities of Devon.

Role Summary

 

The ideal candidate will be a decision-maker, creative thinker and able to assess situations or problems that may arise as well as having a genuine interest in work with children, young people and families. The ability to advise and provide expert knowledge on key areas, forms a big part of the role as well as the ability to adapt to changing situations.

 

Estimated Hours

4 Hours a month

Key Tasks

  • Manage the charity’s resources responsibly, making sure the charity’s assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes;
  • Making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary;
  • Ensure that with your co-trustees you comply with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and be able to demonstrate that your charity is complying with the law, well run and effective;
  • Ensure accountability within the charity, particularly when you have delegated responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers;
  • With your co-trustees, make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the long term as well as the short term.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Confident, creative and approachable;
  • Knowledge of the children and young people sector or services the organisation provides;
  • Be able to analyse information and, when necessary, challenge constructively;
  • A strong communicator with good IT and social media skills and able to access email and telephone;
  • Be able to make collective decisions and stand by them;
  • A background in management with knowledge of managing a charity, including financial and budget setting, work plan monitoring;
  • Well organised with good planning skills.

Expenses

VOYC Devon will reimburse any reasonable expenses that you incur as a result of your volunteer role.
